Joe on Politics

I've always been interested in Politics.  I minored in social sciences and history in college and have always found politics and history fascinating.  I'm what you would call a political talk show junkie.  I listen to both local and national political talk shows, which I prefer to music stations.  Some people listen to classic rock.  I listen to political talk.

Politically I lean conservative.  It probably doesn't mean what you might think it means.  Contrary to the narrative pushed by Democrats, liberals and the media, conservatives are not racist, homophobic, Islamaphobic or really ANY "phobic."  I'm not exactly sure how that narrative got started, but it's one of the big frustrations that myself and my fellow conservatives feel nowadays.

What does being a Conservative mean to me?  The number one thing is that I believe in the US Constitution and tend to think it is one of the best and most important documents ever created.  The founders created it with some wiggle room to create amendments and the document has evolved over time.  I believe the United States is a great country because of the Constitution and I do not agree with those on the left that want to fundamentally change the Constitution and the country as a whole.  I believe that democracy and a constitutional republic is the best system of government in the world and is preferable to Socialism, Communism or dictatorships.

Of course there are other reasons I am conservative.  I don't believe you should spend more than you make.  I think the government should stay out of our lives...within reason.  I am against a welfare state.  I believe I should be able to keep as much of the money I have earned as possible and I don't trust the government to properly spend my tax money.

I hope to post often, but we will see how it goes.  Thanks for reading.
